Betty Ruth Rushing “Momo” Davis was born on June 27, 1938 to the late James Fletcher and Mary Covington Rushing in Albermarle, North Carolina. She peacefully departed this earthly life on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland.
Betty received her formal education at Kingsville High School in North Carolina. Her Christian training was received at Tabernacle of Prayer in Salisbury, MD under the leadership of Bishop Nathaniel and Rosie Edwards. She has been a faithful member for over thirty years. While at Tabernacle, she was actively involved in the life of the church as a Sunday school teacher, Pastor’s Aide, Prophetess, Elder and Mother of the church.
She lived her life for God as she often stated, “I mean heaven all the way” and “I am not going nowhere until the Lord is ready, but are you ready?” She often encouraged anyone who came before her with any problems on bible verses that will see you through. She was an outstanding cook and no matter what anybody brought to her home for her to cook, she would cook it to perfection. She was famous for cooking goat.
In her transition from earth to heaven, Betty leaves to celebrate her life and cherish many loving memories, one son Albert Jones, three daughters: Cathey (Charles) Johnson, Kimberly (Kevin) Bailey, and LaShawn (Jerry) Oge, all of Salisbury, MD.; three adopted daughters: Curina Willoughby of Winterville, NC, Evette Matthews of Brooklyn, NY and Lisa Johnson of Salisbury, MD and one goddaughter, Alicia Lewis of Salisbury, MD. She is also survived by two sisters: Geneieve (Nelrain) Mayers, Emma (Johnny) Smith and one brother: Bobby Rushing, all of Albemarle, NC; her mother-in-law: Mary Davis of Salisbury, MD; three sisters-in-law: Denise Davis of Salisbury, MD, Mary McBride of Delmar, DE and Angie Brown of Baltirmore, MD; seventeen grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, four siblings: James Fletcher, Jr., Emmanuel Rushing, Eva Lee Johnson, and Joseanna Rushing; her husband: Glover T. Davis, Jr.; two grandsons: Lamont Mitchell, Jr. (Mickey) and RaKim Russell and one great-granddaughter: Shyneka Mitchell preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, July 29, 2016 at Mills Memorial Baptist Church, 1323 Jersey Road, Salisbury, MD where friends may two hours prior to service. Interment will be in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, Maryland.
