Blanche R. (Robinson) Wilson

Silver Spring – Blanche R. Wilson, 90 died Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Bedford Court Nursing Home in Silver Spring, MD.

 Born in Vienna, MD., she was the daughter of the late Daniel R. and Ollie (Jolley) Robinson.  Her late husband Dr. Vernon C. Wilson died August 2016.

She was a graduate of the former F.D. Sinclair High School in Cambridge, MD.  Upon graduation, she matriculated at the former Bowie State Teachers College, now Bowie State University, receiving a B.S. degree in elementary education.  During her time at Bowie, she was the piano player for the Glee Club and graduated at the top of her class. She did further studies at George Washington University in D.C., receiving a Master’s degree in education.

Her teaching career began at the former Pine Street Elementary School in Cambridge, MD. She went on to teach for 17 years at several schools in Montgomery County, MD, retiring in 1990. After retirement, she became employed in Vocational Rehabilitation at D.C. Association for Retarded Citizens and later with Goodwill Industries, working as a Vocational Evaluation Specialist.  She also worked as an Intake Counselor; developed an independent living and skills curriculum, and developed and implemented an adult literacy program, retiring in 1996.

 She was a member of Woodside United Methodist Church in Silver Spring, MD.

She was also a member of the Maryland State and Montgomery County Retired Personnel Assoc.

 Her survivors include: four daughters: Stephanie (Ricardo) of Bowie, MD, Melanie (Robert) of Burtonsville, MD Cassandra (Leon) and Cathy, all of Silver Spring, MD; four grandchildren: Janine, Nakia, David and Matthew; three great-grandchildren; four sisters: Gloria Waller, Lena Riley, Ruth Robinson and Emily Robinson; a sister-in-law: Helen Mason of Denton, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and friends.

 A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 26, 2017 at New Dimensions Ministries, 1905 Jersey Road, Salisbury, MD where friends may view two hours prior to service.  Interment will be in the Robinson Family Cemetery in Vienna, MD.
