Mardela Springs- Orlando Harrison Smack, Jr. 72, died Friday, March 2, 2018 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD.
Born in Berlin, he is the son of Esther (Fooks) White of Berlin, MD and the late Orlando H, Smack, Sr. His late wife Mary (Smith) Smack died in 2010.
He was a 1963 graduate of the former Worcester High School. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the US Army and served during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge in 1973.
He was employed as a truck driver for over thirty years. He was formerly employed with Blue Hen Lines, Bill Stevenson, Reed Trucking, Lester Coogan and Kent Glass Company in Delaware.
He was a life member of the VFW #10159 of Salisbury, MD; the American Legion, Duncan Showell Post #231 and charter member of the NABVETS, Walk Through the Valley Chapter #0093, both of Berlin, MD.
Besides his mother, other survivors include three children: Orlando H. Smack, III of Salisbury, MD, Donnell Smack of Princess Anne, MD and Amber (Wayne)Gardner of Salisbury, MD; three stepchildren: Barbara and Eugene Bowen of Salisbury and Ella Jarmon, of Princess Anne, MD; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a devoted companion Margaret King; ten siblings: Dicky Fooks, Jimmy, Sammy, Douglas, Regina and Mary White, Joan Ford, Orlando Smack Sr., D Kay Young and A. Dean Smack; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives extended family and friends.
A brother, Kenny Smack preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Tyree A.M.E. Church in Berlin where friends may view two hours prior to service. Interment will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Eastern Shore Veteran’s Cemetery in Hurlock, MD.
