Vernon Charles Wilson, affectionately known as “V.C.,” was born to Copie and Elizabeth (Coleman) Wilson on August 31, 1929 in the town of Huntingdon, Tennessee.  He was one of six children born to the Wilsons: three boys and three girls.  When Vernon was about ten, the family relocated to Maryland’s Eastern Shore, settling in the town of Ridgely, Maryland.

Vernon received his formal education in the public schools of Caroline County, graduating from the local high school.  Upon graduation he matriculated at the former Bowie State College (now, Bowie State University) , receiving a Bachelor’s degree.  He did further studies at other colleges and completed a doctoral program at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, receiving a Doctorate in Education.

His professional career was spent in D.C.  and the Montgomery County public schools where he served as teacher, guidance counselor and vice-principal.  Dr. Wilson’s never-failing humor, charm and warmth touched many people.

He was a lifelong member of Brightwood Park United Methodist Church in Washington, DC where he taught Sunday school classes for high schoolers and adults; sang with the men’s choir, and was involved with the overall administration of the church.

Dr. Wilson loved learning, teaching, history, music, and was an avid reader.  He also took classical guitar lessons, and could often be found at home practicing.  Some of his favorite guitarists included Charlie Byrd and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Dr. Wilson leaves a lifetime of colorful memories with his wife of 63 years, Blanche Wilson of Silver Spring, MD; their four daughters: Stephanie (Ricardo) of Bowie,MD, Melanie (Robert) of Burtonsville, MD Cassandra (Leon) and Cathy, all of Silver Spring, MD; four grandchildren: Janine, Nakia, David and Matthew; three great-grandchildren, his sister Helen Mason of Denton, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and friends.
