Wesley Handy Purnell

SALISBURY – Wesley Handy Purnell, 63 died Sunday, October 30, 2016 at his home in Salisbury, MD.

Born here, he is the son of Anna L. Purnell of Berlin, MD and the late Alexander F. Purnell.

He was a 1972 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School in Berlin.  He was employed with the Salisbury/Wicomico Airport in maintenance for the last 17 years.  He was also formerly employed with the Town of Ocean City and 9400 Condominium, in Ocean City and Avis Car Rental in Salisbury.

He was a member of St. John’s U.M. Church in Berlin.

Besides his mother, other survivors include his wife of 38 years, Sandra Waples Purnell of Salisbury; one daughter and granddaughter: Alesha and Makya Purnell, both of Philadelphia, PA; six siblings: Patsy L. Purnell, Alexandra Stanley, Patricia Whittington, James (Andrea) Purnell, Aline (Howard) Dennis, all of Salisbury and Terry (Jacqueline) Purnell of Waldorf, MD; a goddaughter: Myia Tariq; three aunts: Mary Francis Purnell, Elsie Truitt and Mabel (Conwell) Foreman and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at St. Paul U.M. Church in Berlin, MD.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Friends may view Friday from 4-6 pm at Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury and on Saturday, at the church, one hour prior to service.
