Veronica Collick Obituary

Veronica Vonzella “Ronnie” Collick, daughter of the late Helena Barkley and Harrison Watkins, was born in Salisbury Maryland on October 13, 1952. Veronica transitioned peacefully from earth into eternal rest on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Doctor’s Community Medical Center in Lanham, Maryland.
She received her education in the Wicomico County school system and graduated in 1970 from Wicomico Senior High School. After high school, she became employed with Campbell Soup Company, Perdue Farms, and local housekeeping companies. After relocating to Prince Georges County, she continued housekeeping employment at Riderwood Senior Living and Genesis Health Care. The Mac Center Agency of Aging awarded Veronica the “Older American Month” Award, May 31, 2022, in recognition of her tireless and selfless contributions given to the Community.

Veronica was united in holy matrimony to Earl Leroy Collick, Sr. May 28, 1994, who preceded her into eternity, April 24, 2021. Together they shared a marriage for 29 years. She loved family and enjoyed family reunions and gatherings. She will be remembered for her caring heart and willingness to help family and others while welcoming anyone in her home regardless of their situation. She was always the “Life of the Party” and kept the family informed of politics in Washington, D.C. and was our news reporter far and near. She was the hardest soft person you could ever meet.

She was a former member of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church. She was active in Sunday School, Children’s Choir and participated in church programs. She attended Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in Washington, D.C. We can rejoice in knowing that she accepted Christ as her personal Savior.

She leaves to cherish her memory, adopted son, Charles Shivers, Dallas, Texas; step-children; Melinda Collick, Pocomoke, Maryland, Earl Collick, Jr. (Shelia) and Amanda Collick, Stockton, Maryland, Clara Hall (Wayne),Claymont, Delaware, Adam Collick, Hyattsville, Maryland,  Dana(Tish) Collick, Berlin, Maryland, and Rodney Douglas, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; four sisters: Joanne Owens, (Gary), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Lenora Barkley, Renee Stevenson, Salisbury, Maryland and Hilda Barkley, Seabrook, Maryland; three uncles; Granvile Dutton(Thelma) Salisbury, Maryland, Rev. Robert (Minister Nadine) Dutton, Bridgeville, Delaware, and Marion Curtis, Salisbury, Maryland, sisters-in law; Helen Martin, Silver Spring, Maryland and Anna Milbourne, Pocomoke, Maryland, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; God-daughter, Toi Cooper, Godson, Korron Johnson, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and fury companion, “Cinnamon”. “Ronnie” was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helena Barkley and Harrison Watkins, brother; Harrison Barkley, sisters; Maria Sinclair and Charlene Barkley, maternal grandmother; Renager Dutton, paternal grandmother; Cora Watkins, aunts; Ann Barkley and Carolyn Curtis, Uncles; George Dutton, Norwood Curtis, nephew; James Joyce, Jr., cousins; Karen Barkley and Darryl “Kenneth” Stanford.
