Darryl was a dear friend. We often "broke bread" together over philosophical discussions. He was a very wise, kind and gentle man despite the fire that burned within. I enjoyed hiking with him and meeting Bakari on the Appalachian Trail. We have worked together for almost a decade now, and in the same building for the last few years (until duty recently called him to another position). I am deeply saddened by his loss because his friendship, wisdom and indomitable spirit often buoyed mine. I will miss him, but never forget him. He will surely remain my "go-to brother" when I need help with a problem.

When Darryl told me he was moving to another organization here at Detrick, it saddened me. He provided interesting conversations about "everything." He visited my office several times a week in between work assignments. I offer my sincere condolences for his family. I was blessed to have considered him a friend. You are blessed to have had him as a family member.
