Garland Ray (Anthony) Savage was born in Withams, VA, February 22, 1934 to the late Harry Frederick Savage and Mary Elizabeth (Fletcher) Savage. He made his transition from this world July 20, 2019.
He was educated at the public elementary schools in both Wattsville and Atlantic, VA. He graduated from Mary N. Smith High School of Accomac, VA. He was active in school activities and the high school track team.
Garland worked many years at major soup and chicken factories. His last full time work was at Salisbury State University as a member of the maintenance staff.
He had affiliations with several churches on the Eastern Shore. At St. Paul A.M.E Zion Church, he had leadership roles or active membership in his class group, which included music ministry, finance ministry, kitchen ministry, drama ministry, and church clerk services. He was well known for his famous macaroni and cheese dish.
His survivors include his siblings: George Frederick Savage, Gerald Ogress Savage, Doraynia Elizabeth (Ivan) Nedab; goddaughter: Mallory Polk; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great grand-nieces, great grand-nephews, and many extended family members including: Marion Gayle, Jackie Townsend and Gerald Long.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 27, 2019 at St. Paul A.M.E Zion Church, 410 Delaware Avenue, Salisbury, MD, where friends may pay their final respects one hour prior to service. Interment will be held 10:00 am, Monday, July 29, 2019 at Springhill Memory Garden, 27260 Ocean Gateway, Hebron, MD.
