Howard Cornish, Jr.

Fruitland – Howard Cornish, Jr. (88), died Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at his home in Fruitland, MD.

 Born in Allen, MD, he was the son of the late Helen Cornish and Howard Covington Cornish. His late wife, Catherine Whittington Cornish died in 1998.

 He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict until an honorable discharge in 1952.

 He was employed for Deer’s Head State Center for 33 years as a Direct Care Assistant, retiring in 1990.  He was also formerly employed with the former Fisher House Oyster Plant in Deal Island, MD and as a self-employed farmer.

 He was a member of the former Liberia Church in Marion Station, MD and an associate member of Friendship U.M. Church.

 His survivors include seven children: Cynthia and Angela Cornish of Fruitland, MD; Craig (Lisa) of Welcome, MD; Arnold of Fredrick, MD; Ronald (Suzette) of Laurel, MD; Howard (Maudine) of Lanham, MD and Tyrone (Tammie) Cornish of Ridgely, MD; eighteen grandchildren; two sisters: Louise Rider of Westminster, MD and Shirley Smith of Wilmington, DE and a host of nieces and nephews.

 Four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

 A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury where friends may view two hours prior to service.  Interment will be in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, MD.
