Ruby Barnes, 84, of Salisbury died Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Aurora Senior Living Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Princess Anne, MD, where she had been a resident for the past four years.
Born in Wilson, NC, she was the daughter of the late Eddie O. McCoy and Otelia Hayes Sutton. She relocated to Berlin, MD in the early sixties and Salisbury, MD in 1983.
She was formerly employed with the former H & H Poultry, now Mountaire Farms.
She was a member at St. James AME Zion Church where she was a member of the Second Usher Board, Missionary Society, and the Kitchen Ministry. She was also a member of Duncan Showell Post 231, American Legion Auxiliary and the former Household of Ruth, G.U.O.O.F Chapter# 1639.
Her survivors include five children: Arlester Horne, Jr. of Snow Hill, Alonzo (Glenda) Horne of Lawton, OK, Anthony Horne and (Ruth “Linda” Skinner) of Cambridge, MD, Brenda Sturgis and Angela Alexander, both of Salisbury, MD; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, ten siblings, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Linda Hardy, three brothers: Hayward, Jr., Roosevelt and George Sutton preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday at St. James AME Zion Church, 521 Mack Avenue, Salisbury, MD.
Interment will be held Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Wilsons, NC.
