Sumter, SC – Shirley Ann Davis Collick, 62 formerly of Berlin, MD, died Friday, June 23, 2017 at her home in Sumter, SC.

 Born in Ocean City, MD, she is the daughter of Shirley (Dennis) Davis of Berlin and the late Wilmer Davis.

 She was a 1973 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School where she was a cheerleader.  Upon graduation, she matriculated at San Antonio College (TX), receiving an AA degree in early childhood development and Morris College in Sumter, receiving a B.A. degree in elementary education.  She did further studies at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, receiving a Master’s degree in early childhood education.

 Her teaching career which spanned 40 years included teacher at Worcester County HeadStart, Seattle Central College (Seattle, WA), University of Washington (Seattle, WA), South Carolina Educational T.V., University of South Carolina (Early childhood development program) and as a kindergarten teacher at Oakland Primary in the Sumter School District.

 Her community and civic involvement included, member of Palmetto Teacher’s Association in S.C. and Sumter Literacy Program.  She volunteered at Emmanuel United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen, Solomon’s Assisted Living and Morning Side Assisted Living.  She was Teacher of the Year 2012-2013.

 She was a member of Shaw Air Force Base Chapel in S.C. where she taught Children’s church.

 Besides her mother, other survivors include her husband of 38 years, Gary Collick, Sr.  of Sumter, SC; two children: Tikitia Glover of Snow Hill, MD and Gary Collick, Jr. of San Antonio, TX; five grandchildren: Areyhon Collick-Glover, Malik Glover, Chloe Ickes, Gary Collick III and Marvin Ames; a mother-in-law: Bernice Blake; father-in-law: Willis (Gertie ) Collick; maternal step-grandmother: Sadie Dennis; three siblings: Wilmer T. and Crystal Davis and Pauline (Frank) Gilliam, all of Berlin, MD; five aunts, one uncle; nine sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.

 A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2017 at St. Paul U.M. Church in Berlin.  Interment will be in New Bethel U.M. Church Cemetery in Berlin, Maryland.
