William D. Briddell, of here, died Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, MD. He had been a resident of Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since December 2015.
Born in Berlin, he was the son of the late Alma Jarmon and William Thomas Briddell. His late wife, Elsie Briddell preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of the former Worcester High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served his country during WW II until receiving an honorable discharge in 1947. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for saving the lives of his comrades.
Upon his return to the states, Bill became employed with his father’s business: Briddell and Son’s Landscaping Company. In later years, he started Briddell Landscaping with his faithful employee, Albert Jarmon.
He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and their United Methodist Men.
His civic involvement included a member of Lincoln Lodge #53, F&AM, P.H.A., Grand United Order of Oddfellows and the American Legion, Duncan Showell Post #231, all of Berlin.
His survivors include two sons: Michael (Patricia) Briddell of S. Chesterfield, VA and Wayne (Kathy) Briddell; six grandchildren: Richele (Donald) Strong, Miko Givens, Nikki (Alfred) Newsome, Lisa Briddell, Kylee (Jame) Bolibrzuch and Dwayne Briddell; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two siblings: Rev. David (Jane) Briddell and John (Emma) Briddell; in-laws: Herman Bowman, Geraldine Spiceley, Thomas Edmonds and John R. Emerson and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 1 pm Tuesday, January 9, 2019, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 405 Flower Street – Berlin, MD. Friends may view two hours prior to service. Masonic and fraternal rituals will be held at noon.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
