Alice Collier, affectionately known to her loved ones as Al went home to heaven Sunday May 18, 2014. Two weeks shy of her 102nd birthday, she passed peacefully in her sleep at the Gilchrest Hospice located in Towson, MD. Alice, the daughter of Jehu and Mary Ellen Jones Collier, was born on June 6, 1912 in Philadelphia, PA.
Alice received her education in the public schools of Salisbury, Wicomico County, MD along with her Sister Minnie Cottman nee Minnie Collier who preceded her in passing along with sisters Annie Mae Collier, Margaret Collier, Thelma Collier, brother Robert Collier, nephews Jimmy and Aaron Mathews and brother in law Winfred "Wimpy" Cottman. About 12 year later at age 97, Alice began using a walker to help her get around she would say, "I guess I'm an old lady now!" On her 100th birthday, she was asked what her secret was to a long life and not having ant wrinkles her response, "Don't stress, and take care of yourself!" Alice was a loving, caring, and giving person. She was often more concerned of others than herself. Alice demonstrated this during her final days while surrounded by her family she looked at them and said, as if she was trying to convince herself, "You will be alright!" She leaves behind to morn a nephew, Freddie Cottman of Baltimore, MD; a great-nephew and his mother: Jerrod Cottman and Janet Bailey-Cottman, as well as many other close relatives and friends.
