IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bernice Elizabeth
(Jones) Bloodsworth
November 6, 1948 – December 12, 2023
With great sorrow and an abundance of gratitude, the Bloodsworth and Seldon family announce the passing of our kind, gracious, loving, and unimaginably generous wife, mother, and grandmother - Bernice Elizabeth Jones Bloodsworth.
Bernice Bloodsworth, 75, of Fruitland, Maryland, died peacefully at Select Specialty Hospital on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, with her beloved family by her side. Born on November 6, 1948, in Salisbury, MD, she was the daughter of Wilmer and Elizabeth Jones and later adopted by Joel and Ola Jones.
Bernice graduated high school at Carter G. Woodson High School in Crisfield, MD. Upon graduation, she matriculated to Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. She went on to earn a Master's Degree in Education at Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD.
Mrs. Bloodsworth's career as an educator spanned 45 years as a Mathematics teacher. She spent 30 years of her career with Wicomico County Public Schools, serving her beloved "Wi-Hi" for 28 years. She retired from Wicomico High School in 2000. Upon retirement, she spent 15 years as a Math teacher at Wor-Wic Community College. Continuing her legacy as an outstanding educator, she spent many years in service of families as a Mathematics tutor.
Bernice strove to be a woman of God in everything she did. Bernice began her Christian walk as a member of Handy's United Methodist Church in Marion Station, MD. She later became a member of St. James Free Methodist Church in Head of Creek, MD, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent.
To know Bernice was to love her. She was small in stature, but mighty in spirit - attested by any person who had the privilege to hear her pray. She was also an avid lover of tennis and delighted in spending time with her family.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Ola and Joel Jones, and siblings Will, Gary, and Anita.
Bernice/ "Bernie"/Ma/Mom-Mom leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 29 years, Douglas M. Bloodsworth of Fruitland, MD; a beloved and treasured daughter, Jacquelyn (Sean) Seldon of Fruitland, MD; three adoring grandchildren, Meghin Seldon, Alexis (Londale) Seldon-Anderson; Joshua Seldon; and four devoted great-grandchildren who were the center of her world - Caleb, Colbi, Colin, and Seanie of Salisbury, MD. She is also survived by her brother Wilmore (Marcia) Jones of Baltimore, MD; her sister Barbara "Diane" Cooper of Cambridge, MD; siblings Ellen, Linda, Patricia, and Aaron; and extended her blessings and love to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
