Obituary

Bessie Mae Jackson Jones, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 13, 2026 at Bay Harbor Nursing Home in Salisbury, MD.

She was born January 25, 1939 in Rhodesdale, MD, the beloved daughter of the Late Noah James and Emma Jane Farrare Jackson. She received her formal education in the public schools of Dorchester County. She attended Vienna Elementary School in Vienna, Md and Mace’s Lane High School in Cambridge, Md, graduating in the Class of 1957. After graduating from high school , she attended Cosmetology School in Easton, Md. She was an apprentice in Jannard Pinkett’s Beauty Salon in Vienna , Md. Later, she was employed by E.I.DuPont. She worked there for 35 years doing various jobs, including a shipping clerk and a lab technician held by very few Black women.

She attended Mount Calvary United Methodist Church in Fruitland, MD. She was chairperson of the Communion Stewards, a member of the United Methodist Women, Senior Choir member, and past-treasurer for twenty years. She had a vibrant personality, a kind and sympathetic heart, that gave her the desire to be a servant to others. She was raised at Zoar United Methodist in Reids’s Grove, Maryland, serving as a former Usher, working in the kitchen and singing her favorite hymn, “Ride Out the Storm”.

Her love for family and friends was beyond any comparison. She loved family functions. She often visited her family who lived out of town.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Emma Jackson, three brothers, Rudy Jackson, James Jackson, and Winfield Jackson, two sisters, Lenora Brooksie Jackson, and Geraldine Dennis and a step-son, James Jones.

She is survived by one brother, Keifford Jackson of Vienna, Md, and one sister, Vatice Jackson Walker of Rhodesdale, Md. She is also survived by two step children, Deacon Donald Jones and Linda Jones, three grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many friends.
