Betty Ann
Dewdney
March 26, 1937 – April 12, 2026
Betty Ann (Brown) Dewdney, age 89, of Mardela Springs, Maryland (“San Domingo”) entered peaceful eternal rest on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Good Shepard Hospice in Auburndale, Florida. She was born on March 26, 1937 and was the eldest daughter of the late Arthur Leroy Brown, Sr. and Hazel Louise Brown. In addition, Betty received her formal education at Sharptown Elementary School on Old School Road in San Domingo and attended Salisbury High School.
Betty was married to the late Willie James Dewdney of Winter Haven, Florida. From this union, they were blessed with six children and made their home in San Domingo. She was a member of Zion Church of San Domingo. After her husband’s death, she moved to Winter Haven, Florida to be closer to her grand and great-grandchildren and to enjoy a much warmer climate. She and her husband were bothknown to drive straight through from Maryland to Florida and back, with kids in tow, without giving it a second thought!
Betty started her career as a Food & Safety Inspector with the U. S. Department of Agriculture in 1965. She began work at the Snow Hill poultry plant as a part-time employee, then went full-time in 1967 at Perdue Farms, Inc. in Salisbury, Maryland. During her tenure as an a Government Inspector, she worked at various plant locations which includes Hurlock, Maryland, Georgetown, Townsend and Milford, Delaware and Accomack, Virginia. She came home with many stories(good, bad and humorous) to say about each location where she worked.
For all those that knew Betty, cars were her passion; along with keeping them clean, inside and out! However, her greatest love was her children and grand and great-grandchildren – nothing could break that bond. They were the greatest joy of her life and what kept her going! Her favorite saying was “you’re only as old as you feel”.
