Calvin Brooks Bailey, affectionately known as Poonie, was born on March 3, 1940, to the late Ella Bailey King and the late Linwood Conway. On Saturday, March 21, 2026, our Almighty called Calvin home while he was surrounded by care and compassion at Tidal Health Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland.

Calvin received his early education at Wetipquin Elementary School before the onset of his disability. His spiritual foundation was nurtured at Friendship United Methodist Church in Wetipquin, Maryland, where he developed a deep belief in God and a gentle, faithful spirit that remained with him throughout his life.

Calvin found joy in the simple pleasures of life—doodling, dancing, watching television, and proudly showing off his cherished collection of watches. During his eight years residing at the Holly Center in Salisbury, he embraced the community around him, delighting in the many dances, parties, and social events that brought him happiness and connection.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry King; his sister, Arnetta Bailey Sample; and his brother-in-law, Joseph “Little” Sample.

Calvin leaves to cherish his memory: Joseph L. Sample Jr. (Nadine) of Salisbury, MD; Don A. Sample (Michelle) of Harrisburg, PA; and Uncle Lewis Conway of Houston, TX.

He is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives were touched by his gentle presence.
