Obituary

Charles Lee Blake of Batavia, New York, passed away in Rochester, New York, on May 20, 2024. Charles, a native of Girdletree, Maryland, was born to Damon and Mable on September 24, 1959. A shining star, he graduated from Snow Hill High School in 1977, where he excelled as an athlete. His dedication and commitment led him to serve in the United States Marine Corps, where he was awarded The Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Expert Badge.  After his honorable discharge, Charles ventured into entrepreneurship, owning and operating a successful long-distance trucking company for several years.

An avid historian, Charles enjoyed sports of all kinds, great music, vehicles, and grilling with a cold drink in hand. His parents, Damon E. Blake Sr. and Mable Johnson preceded him in death along with his siblings, Barbara Williamson, Patsy Blake, Shirley Borden, Damon Blake, Jr., Benjamin Blake, Donald Blake, and George Schoolfield Jr. Charles is survived by his loving partner and caregiver, Yvonne Wolcott; his children, Carlos (Carmen) Williams, Bryant Williams, and Lakeisha Davis (Jonathan Smalls Jr.); siblings, Ruth A. Copes and Francis Schoolfield, five grandchildren; Chloe, Chase, Carlie, Kaidence, and Ariannah, a host of nieces and nephews, and cherished friends and family. The Family of Charles Lee Blake would like to express our deepest gratitude to The Department of Veteran Affairs for their unwavering support and to the skilled care team of Strong Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion. The visitation and memorial service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at H. E. Turner & Co., Inc. Funeral Home, located at 403 East Main Street, Batavia, New York 14020. Your presence would mean a lot to us.

Another visitation will be held at Howell & Jolley Memorial Chapel P. A. Funeral & Cremation Services, 1213 Jersey Road, Salisbury, Maryland 21801, Friday, June 14, 2024, and service at 9:00 am, and funeral services at 11:00 am.

Burial will take place on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 2 p.m., at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, Maryland.
