Obituary

Seaford – Elder Charles H. Henley, 70 died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, DE.

Born in Selma, Alabama, he was the son of the late Ida Henley Purdie and James C. Purdie.

He was a 1962 graduate of Beloit Industrial Institute in Beloit, AL.

He made his home in Delaware in the late 60's.  He was formerly employed with Penn Fiber, Inc. of Greenwood, Electrolux in Seaford where he retired after 30 years and Maryland Plastics, Inc. of Federalsburg, retiring in 2006.

Currently, he was the Assistant Pastor at Rehoboth Temple of Praise in Laurel under Bishop Leon J. Wilson.  He was also associated with the late Bishop Johnnie Washington, Tabernacle of Prayer in Jamaica, NY and with Bishop Nathaniel and Rosie Edwards at Tabernacle of Prayer in Salisbury, MD.

He attended Chesapeake College in Wye Mills where he received certification as CDL Driver and Computer Programmer.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jacqueline Moore Henley of Seaford; three children: Lavon Roxbury of Calvert County, MD; Brandon (Kimberly) Henley of Upper Marlboro, MD and Sharell Henley of Seaford, DE; six grandchildren, nine siblings: Bertha (Richard) Jefferson, Verna Featherston, both of Cleveland, OH; Raymond, Terence (Jeanette), Christopher, Timothy (Karol), James Dale (Sandra) Purdie, Clinton Martin, all of Selma, AL and David Walker of Birmingham, AL; one sister-in-law: Hattie Moore Lafayette of Baltimore, MD; two brothers-in-law: Reggie Moore of Chicago, IL and William Moore of Princess Anne, MD; several aunts, uncles and a host of nieces and nephews.  Three godchildren: Geoberti (Chy) Wise, Clarissa Tanya Waters and Leonard Polk, Jr. He is also survived by a close friend who was like a son, Kevin Jefferson.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Tabernacle of Prayer, 143 Mitchell Road, Salisbury, MD where friends may call Friday evening, from 6-8 pm and again on Saturday, one hour prior to service.  Interment will be in Green Acres Memorial Park, West Road.
