IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Doris

White

April 11, 1944 – September 7, 2023

Obituary

Doris Annette Jones White was born on April 11, 1944, to the late Doris M. and George Russell Jones Sr. She was called to her final resting place on September 7, 2023, at the age of 79. She was married to the late Walter White Sr. From their union came three children: the eldest daughter, Machelle White-Johnson and two sons, Walter White Jr., and Donald White.

Doris received her formal education in Dorchester County school system and went on to study Education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and received her master's degree from Rutgers University. Upon graduating, she became an educator. Most notably, Doris taught business education at James M. Bennett High School for thirty-three years.

Doris lived a life of service.

She gave her life to Christ on Resurrection Sunday in 1963. Doris was a faithful member of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, in Salisbury, Maryland. She served in many capacities, Women's Day Chairperson, a delegate for the church at the Eastern Shore District and Annual Conferences, Pride Club member, member of C. H. Mack Chorus, secretary for Scholarship Fund Committee, member of the Grant Writing Consortium, member of the Missionary Society, Lay Council Life Member, a member of the Phenomenal Women of Praise, an usher on the Lillian I. Jones Usher Board (2nd Usher Board) and officer on the Trustee Board.

Her greatest accomplishments in service and sisterhood were during her time as President of the Delta Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated. She will forever be a Silver Star member.

Even after she retired, she continued to live a life of service. She served on the Wicomico County Housing Board of Directors as Vice President. She was also a member of the Concerned Citizens of the Westside Community Action program. As health was a primary concern within her community, she was instrumental in trailblazing St. James' Annual Health Fair which, to date, serves the three lower counties.

The theme of Doris' life was, "Let the work I've done speak for me."

Doris is survived by her children, Machelle, Walter, and Donald as well as her twin sister, Deloise Paskins and her brothers, George Russell Jones II, and Rev. Donald Jones. Robert Jones, her brother, preceded her in death. She also leaves her nine grandchildren to mourn: Aaron Johnson, Darrin Johnson Jr., Erykah Barkley, Donald White Jr., Damarie White, Monique Green, Chania White, and Ellis Hutt Jr. and Chasity White, whom she raised as her own. Her legacy will be forever alive in the minds of her many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sorority members, friends, and the countless lives she has touched during her time here on earth.

There is no doubt that Doris lived a life that we can all be proud of. A life of services through education, through community service and civic engagement, and through sisterhood. Her faith in God was the driving force behind her success. Doris lived a blessed life and through this, she has blessed the lives of many.
