Obituary

Edith "Bea" Beatrice Adkins Lankford, beloved daughter of the late William Edward Adkins and Edith Fisher Stevenson Adkins, was born on April 12, 1945, in Salisbury, Maryland. On Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the age of 80, Edith peacefully departed this life at her home on Market Street in Snow Hill, MD.

Edith received her formal education in the public schools of Worcester County. Her spiritual journey began at Collins Temple A.M.E. Church, where she dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. Throughout her life, she remained a devoted member, serving faithfully as both a choir member and an usher until her health no longer permitted.

Professionally, Edith worked for Worcester County Transportation/Public Works, where her contributions were deeply valued by her colleagues and the community.

Edith leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her daughter, Coretta Lankford of Richmond, VA, and her three sons: Harold Lankford of Snow Hill, MD; Arthur Lankford Jr. (Lola) of New Church, VA; and Robert Anderson of Snow Hill, MD. She also lovingly assisted in the rearing of her granddaughter, Decola Johnson of Atlanta, GA; her grandson, Jamar Lankford (Destini) of Salisbury, MD; and her great-granddaughter, Makayla Custis, whose presence brought immense joy to her life.

Her sister, Ann "Niecy" Palmer of Snow Hill, MD, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, also mourn her loss and treasure the memories they shared. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ruth Baine Allen and Mary Stevenson DeShields; and two brothers, Harold Baine and Harrison Baine.

A homegoing service will be held on June 7, 2025, at Collins Temple A.M.E. Church. Edith will lie in repose from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at St. James Holiness Church Cemetery, 506 Dighton Avenue, Snow Hill, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Collins Temple A.M.E. Church. Edith's love and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
