Evelyn's Journey

Evelyn Jean Whaley, 68, was born on December 18, 1954, to the late Ethel Mae Carter Gaynor and Eugene Gaynor. On Sunday, December 25, 2022, Evelyn, a loving wife and mother of five, peacefully departed this earthly life at Tidalhealth in Salisbury, Maryland, surrounded by her loving family She fought a good fight and finished the race after a short sprint of illness.

Evelyn received her education in the Public Schools of Worcester County. Later she attended Wor-Wic Community College to study Nursing.

She was raised in a God-Fearing home with strong Christian values, where the family was significant to her. Evelyn was a member of the Church of Christ in Berlin, Maryland, until her health declined. She was a humble and faithful servant to God. She related the three little letters, "I do," a done deal. Despite juggling doctor's appointments and discomfort, she continues to read her Bible and devotional.

Evelyn was a long-term employee at Tidalhealth for thirty-three years before her retirement in 2021. She continuously volunteered at Worcester County Detention Center in Snow Hill, Maryland, for over thirty years conducting the jail ministry.

Evelyn loved singing, rejoicing in the Lord, and exalting His Spirit. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of forty-six years, James (Jimmy) Whaley, Whaleyville, MD, and four children, Dwoin (APree) Carter of Chesapeake, VA, Nikka Carter of Berlin, MD, Val Whaley of Seaford, DE, and Joshua Whaley of Salisbury, MD, three stepchildren, Sabrina, Junior and Sharon, one sister, Catherine Nock of Salisbury, MD, and two stepbrothers, James and Tony Gaynor of Indianapolis, IN, a loving aunt,  Gladys Gaynor of Berlin, MD, devoted sisters-in-law, Shelia Whaley, and Patricia Whaley, a loyal brother-in-law, Butch Whaley, twenty-two grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Mae Carter Gaynor and Eugene Gaynor, and a son, Ty Whaley.
