George Alfred Dutton, Jr., 80, peacefully transitioned from this life to eternity on August 8, 2026, in Salisbury, Maryland. He was born on December 15, 1945, to the late George Alfred Dutton, Sr., and Mary Francis Dutton. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Dora and Clifford Trader, who played an important role in shaping his early years and the man he would become.

After graduating from Salisbury High School, George proudly served his country in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge following his faithful service. He later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. His commitment to service continued throughout his life—in his community, his church, and among his fellow veterans.

Professionally, George was employed by Standard Register Company as a Plant Supervisor, where he worked for 30 years. He was known for his dedication, strong work ethic, and dependability. After retiring from Standard Register, he worked part-time with the Wicomico County Board of Education in Transportation Services. He later devoted his time to volunteering and served as Commander of the Eastern Shore Disabled Veterans Association Chapter #34.

George was a member of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, where he enjoyed fellowship and faithfully supported his church family. He served as a sexton and usher and assisted with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Charles H. Mack.

George was also a faithful supporter of the Puppet Ministry and had a special interest in seeing young people succeed. He generously helped ensure that the youth had the resources and materials needed to prepare, participate, and share their ministry with confidence.

He also supported the Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway, helping to ensure that families in the community could enjoy a meal and experience the warmth of the holiday season. His willingness to serve reflected his caring spirit and his belief in lending a helping hand whenever he could.

George was a former member and Past Master of Lamach Lodge #30, a past member of King David Consistory #284, and Past Master of Abula-Hab Shriners #206 in Salisbury, Maryland, and was a member of the House Committee of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #10159 in Salisbury, Maryland.

George was a dedicated advocate for his fellow veterans. At theApril 2026 Stand Down, he brought a team of four service officers who assisted sixteen veterans in enrolling for VA benefits. Proud of the services provided through Zion House, a ministry of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, George recommended the ministry to his Commander for special recognition. Zion House was subsequently recognized through a Memorial Day proclamation from Governor Wes Moore honoring service members. Through these efforts, George truly embodied a life of “service beyond self.”

George enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

He also had a natural gift for conversation and always seemed to know the latest happenings. If there was news to be shared, a story making its way around town, or something interesting going on, chances are George had already heard about it! Family and friends often joked that if you wanted to know the latest “going-on,” just ask George.

He had a way of keeping up with everyone and everything and was never short on a good story to share. His curiosity, quick wit, and lively conversations brought plenty of laughter and became one of the many unforgettable things his family and friends loved about him.

Loving memories will be cherished by his children: Anthony “Tony” Parker; Sherri (Lester) Andrews, Flamont Rubin of Delmar, Maryland, Lamont Dennis of Princess Anne, Maryland,Jammie Dutton of Salisbury, Maryland; Bracy (Bridget) Dutton of Wake Forest, North Carolina.

He also leaves to cherish his memory several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, Delores (John) Deepree, Jr. and Francine Dutton-Dennis, (Samuel Thompson) of Salisbury, Maryland; nieces; nephews; extended family members; his church family; fellow veterans; and a host of loving friends.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, George was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Robert “Sonny” Sample, and his niece, Michelle Adams.
