Hope Mills, NC – George D. (Kick) Johnson, 41 formerly of Mardela Springs, MD died Saturday, June 1, 2013 in Hope Mills, NC, near Fayetteville.
Born in Salisbury, he is the son of Adrien Goslee Dennard of Mardela Springs and Wallace Hayman of Columbia, DE.
He was a 1990 graduate of Mardela High School. Upon graduation, he attended Delaware State University in Dover. He matriculated to Fayetteville Technical Community College, receiving an Associate's degree in Applied Mortuary Science.
George was formerly employed with the ACME Food Stores, Jolley Memorial Chapel, Chesapeake Youth Center where he was an activities director and the Cumberland County School System where he was a teacher's assistant. At the time of his death, he was employed as a Funeral Director/Embalmer for Wiseman Mortuary, Inc. in Fayetteville, NC.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs. He also attended Simon Temple A.M.E. Zion Church and Rivers of Living Waters Church of God, both in Fayetteville.
His professional memberships included: membership with the Cape Fear District Funeral Directors and Morticians Assoc., the Funeral Directors & Morticians Assoc. of NC, the National Funeral Directors & Morticians Assoc., Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity and the Young Professionals of Fayetteville.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a son, Aaron Johnson; daughter, Preche't Harris; stepparents: Tommy Dennard and Joan Hayman; four brothers: Wallace (Frances) Farrare, Baron (Selina) Hopkins, Sr., Gerard Butler and Takaii Smith, sisters: Sonora and Patrice Goslee, Angela Morgan, Linette (Maury)Braham and Noshia Hayman; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A brother: Brian Haymond, great-grandmother: Grace Goslee, grandmother: Rachel Winder, uncle: William Winder and special cousins: Andre', Ronnie, Kesha and Kenise preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at. Zion United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs. A visitation will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m.at Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury and on Saturday, at the church, one hour prior to the service. A time of personal reflections will be held Friday evening from 7:15-8:00 p.m. (2 minute limit)
