Gertrude V. Mason, 72 died Monday, February 3, 2014 at her 6556 Mt. Olive Church Road home in Snow Hill, MD.
Born in Girdletree, MD, she was the daughter of the late William Chester Bishop, Sr. and Lillian Johnson Bishop.
She was a 1959 graduate of the former Worcester High School. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Box Iron where she served on the United Methodist Women, Senior Choir and church pianist.
She was employed for twenty-eight years as a C.N.A. at Holly Center in Salisbury where she retired in 2003.
Her survivors include her husband of 54 years, George Mason of Snow Hill, MD; five children: George Knox and Starr (Rickey) Wyatt, all of Baltimore, Barry (Jacqueline) Mason of Mt. Vernon, NY; Georgette Mason of Salisbury, MD and Crystal (Michael) Fountain of Snow Hill, MD; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three siblings: Robert (Catherine) Bishop, Sr. of Mt. Vernon, NY, Betty Bishop and Bernice Blake, both of Snow Hill, MD and a host of nieces and nephews.
A grandson, Ryan Mason and two brothers: William "Billy", Jr. and Ernest Bishop preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Ebenezer U.M. Church, 103 Collins Street, Snow Hill. Interment will be in St. James AME Church Cemetery at Taylor's Gate. Friends may call St. Matthews U.M. Church, 7209 Cherrix Road – Box Iron, Friday evening from 6-8 pm and on Saturday at Ebenezer U.M. Church, one hour prior to service.
