Obituary
Gladys D. Church, 82 of Salisbury, died Monday, February 10, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ada (Foster) Dickerson. Her late husband Earl C. Church died in 1985.
She was a 1948 graduate of the former Mary N. Smith High School in Accomac, VA. Upon graduation she matriculated at the former Baltimore City School of Nursing.
She was employed as a pediatric nurse for PRMC, retiring in 1985. She was also a School Bus Contractor for the Wicomico County Board of Education from 1985-2006.
She was a member of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church.
Her civic involvements included: member of Wicomico County and Maryland State School Bus Contractors Assoc., Naomi Chapter #16, O.E.S., P.H.A., Golden Circle, John H. Jones Assembly #284, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary #10159, lifetime merit member of the Junior Board Auxiliary of PRMC, Peninsula Partners, AARP and National Committee to preserve Social Security & Medicare. She was also a former member of the Princess Anne Chapter of LINKS, Inc. and Salisbury Arts Council.
Her survivors include two children: Sharine (David) Townsend and Audrey (Donald) Cannon, all of Salisbury; three grandchildren: Uvonda Rae (Marvin) Parker of Salisbury; Will and Alphus (Jorja) Comer; five great-grandchildren: Kiarah, Ariel, Jau, Kyler and Chase and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014 at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, Mack Avenue, Salisbury where friends may call two hours prior to service. Interment will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2014 at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
Fraternal rites will be held at 1:00 p.m.
