Obituary

Helen H. Smith, 97 died Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, MD.

Born in Williamsville, DE, she was the daughter of the late Wallace W., Sr. and Radie E, (Waples) Handy.  Her late husband David Wilbur Smith died in 2005.

She received her formal education in the public school systems in Bishopville, MD, and Philadelphia, PA; graduating from the former Ross Street School in Snow Hill, MD.

Her Christian training was received at Zoar U.M. Church in Selbyville where she was a former Sunday School teacher and was involved with youth and other ministry organizations.

She was employed with the former H&H Poultry, now Mountaire Farms in Selbyille, DE, retiring at 25 years of service.

She is survived by a daughter: Diana (Russell) Mitchell Taylor of Selbyville, DE; four grandchildren: Karen (Todd) Hughes of Smyrna, DE, Ronald, Jr. (Marsha) Mitchell of Philadelphia, PA, Michelle (Quonta) Vance of Aberdeen, MD, and David (Shana) Mitchell, Sr. of Berlin, MD; seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a special nephew who was like her son: Albin (Regina) Handy; three siblings: Mildred Briddell, Ionia Davis and Monroe Handy; a daughter-in-law: Peggy Mitchell, a sister-in-law: Mildred Handy and a host of nieces and nephews.

A son, Ronald Mitchell, Sr. preceded her in death in December 2017.
