Millsboro, DE – Henry E. (Bug) Purnell, Sr., 77 formerly of Berlin, died Tuesday, June 16, 2015 in his home in Millsboro.
Born in Berlin, he was the son of the late Margaret Purnell and William Leonard. His late wife, Margaret Naomi Purnell died in 2007.
He was a 1956 graduate of the former Worcester High School. Upon graduation he matriculated at West Bend Community College in Wisconsin receiving a Bachelor's degree.
He later enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Master Sergeant. While serving his country, he received two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star Medal.
He was a lifetime member of St. Paul U.M. Church in Berlin. He was also a member of the American Legion, Duncan Showell Post #231 in Berlin.
His survivors include four children: Kim of Orlando, FL, Phillip of Wilmington, DE, Enoch of Seaford, DE and Henry Purnell III of Virginia Beach, VA; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, nine brothers and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2015 at St. John's 2nd Baptist Church in Millsboro where friends may view from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
