Irene Stanford Satchell, formerly of Fruitland, MD, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in Camden, New Jersey. She had made her home in Camden since 1951.
Born in Fruitland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Henry Wesley Stanford and Irene Wilson Stanford. Her husband, Bernard Lee Satchell preceded her in April 2000.
She received her formal education in the public schools of Wicomico County, attending the former Salisbury Colored High School.
She was formerly employed with the former Dulaney and Sons in Fruitland. Upon relocating to Camden, NJ (1953) she became employed as a nurses' aide at the former West Jersey Hospital, now Virtua and later at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in the Pediatric Dept, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of Hosanna A.M.E. Church in Camden, where she served on the Trustee Board, as well as other organizations and capacities within the church.
She is survived by three children: Bernard W. (Frances) Satchell, Sr., A. Dianne (Isaiah) Thomas and Domita Satchell; ten grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She is greatly missed.
Besides her husband, Bernard; one daughter Phyllis S. Arthur (December 2014) and three siblings: Oliver M. Stanford, Coston H. Stanford and Rev. Ruth Stanford Furr preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Hosanna A.M.E. Church, 2998 Saunders Street in Camden, NJ where friends may view two hours prior to service. An additional viewing will be held 11:00-1:00 pm, Monday, January 12, 2014 at Jolley Memorial Chapel, 1213 Jersey Road, Salisbury, MD. Immediately following the viewing, interment will be held at Green Acres Memorial Park, 1616 West Road in Salisbury, MD.
