Newark – Irma Foreman Hammond, 74 of Tindley Road in Newark, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin, MD.
Born in Newark, MD, she was the daughter of the late William Edward, Sr. and Tina Mae (Johnson) Foreman. Her late husband, Goldsborough Hammond, Sr. died in 1999.
She was a member of Williams A.M.E. Church in Newark where she served on the Senior Choir and as a former usher. She was also a member of the Foreman Sisters and former Williams Gospelettes, family singing groups.
She was employed with Comfort Inn Motel in Ocean City. She was formerly employed with Gull Creek, the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant and also as a private sitter.
Her survivors include five children: Mary (Vannie) Bolling of Salisbury; Phyllis (Howard) West of Seaford, Pastor Cynthia Spencer of Berlin, Alan (Marie) Hammond of Snow Hill and Alexander (Nina) Hammond of Pocomoke; a stepson: Tyrone (Patricia) Purnell of Laurel, DE; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; a devoted friend: Mr. Thomas Hall of Bishopville, MD; five sisters: Virginia, Iona of Berlin and Mildred Foreman, all of Newark, MD, Gladys (Willie) Hargis and Naomi (Willis) Ellison, all of Berlin; one uncle: John (Virginia) Foreman of Berlin; one aunt: Martha Collins of Wilmington, DE and a host of nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, a son: Goldsborough Hammond, Jr.; four siblings: Helen, Willis, Wardell and Hurley Foreman and a son-in-law: Apostle Robert Spencer preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Calvary Pentecostal Church in Bishopville, MD. Interment will be in Williams A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Newark, MD.
Friends may call Williams A.M.E. Church on Friday from 6-8 pm and at Calvary Pentecostal Church on Saturday, one hour prior to service.
Funeral services are entrusted to Jolley Memorial Chapel of Salisbury, MD.
