Pompano Beach, FL – John Harry DeShields, 73 died Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Broward Health Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Born in Snow Hill, he was the son of the late Nathaniel P. DeShields, Jr. and Mary (Stevenson) DeShields.

He attended the former Worcester High School in Newark, MD, relocating to Florida in 1964.

He was employed with a construction company in Florida for several years.

His survivors include five sons: Ricky Adams, Kelvin Wimberly and Darryl Williams, all of Indianapolis, IN, Eric Adams of Dover, DE and Jeffrey Williams of Philadelphia, PA; several grandchildren; four siblings: Albert DeShields of San Angelo, TX, Martha DeShields of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; Barbara McCoy of Salisbury, MD and Catherine Handy of Laurel, DE and a host of nieces and nephews.

Three sisters: Alfonsie Purnell, Mary Copeland and Shirley Harvey and two brothers: Linwood Stevenson and Nathaniel "Jack" DeShields, Jr preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 28, 2017 at St. James Holiness Church in Snow Hill, MD.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Friends may view Wednesday from 6-7:30 P.M. at Jolley Memorial Chapel, Salisbury and on Thursday at the church, one hour prior to service.
