On July 8, 2013 at the command of God a fleet of heaven's chariots descended reuniting to His heavenly home into eternal life a beloved son, loving brother, devoted nephew, revered cousin, loyal father, adored grandfather, and wonderful friend, John Derrick Jones. John D. Jones was born on August 20, 1961 to Spirit filled; loving parents John Leon Jones (Polks Road) and Portia Jones (Deal Island). He was a graduate of Washington High School where he received the "Best Dressed" award and embarked upon his goal to be an independent Truck Driver. Derrick as he was lovingly called was united in marriage to his former, wife Luzetta Jones in 1986. His passion for trucking led him to establish his own independent business, "J.D. Jones Trucking Inc." as well as maintained employment for Perdue, G & R Farms and Glatfelter. He was a member of the "Wide Open Throttle" car club, Trinity United Methodist Community Worship Center Church as well as an associate member of Higher Hope in Christ Church.
Derrick left behind a wonderful legacy. It is doubtful that anyone who crossed his path would do so without smiling or laughing at something he would say or do. He brought a unique joyful presence with Him wherever he went and is known for his love of family, fishing, and trucking. His trucking handle was "EZ Rider", yet because of his joy of life, Spirit- filled faith, infectious smile, soul quenching laugh, a barrel of love for all forms of humor all who knew him called him "Big Country".
