Salisbury- Kirklan Benjamin Polk, 87 died Monday, March 5, 2018 at Wicomico Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury.
Born in Allen, he was the son of the late Randolph and Margaret (Cottman) Polk.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Wicomico County, graduating from the former Salisbury High School. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War, receiving and honorable discharge
For 30 years Kirklan was employed in general maintenance with the General Services Administration of the U.S. Government. He was also a school bus contractor for the Wicomico County Board of Education for over 30 years.
Kirklan was a dedicated member of St. Paul A.M.E. Zion church. He was a former member of the Trustee Board, member of the Sanctuary and Senior Choirs; former Class Leader and worked in several other capacities in the church. He was the last member of the original Fruitland Harmonizers.
He was also a member of the Salisbury High School Alumni Association.
His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marion P. Polk; two children: Baron (Vera) Polk and Aimee (Bernardo) Handy, all of Salisbury, MD; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.
Three sisters: Shirley Kent, Eunice Long and Gwendolyn Dennis and one brother : Melville T. Polk preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2018 at St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church in Salisbury where friends may view one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church Renovation Project – c/o Deborah Stanley, 410 Delaware Avenue, Salisbury, MD 21801.
