IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kirtis K.
Hargis
November 8, 1962 – July 3, 2024
Kurtis Kanell Hargis, 61, affectionately known as Boss Hogg, of Salisbury, Maryland, peacefully died on July 3, 2024, at the home he shared with his fiancé, Cheryl Copeland. Kirtis was born on November 8, 1962, in Accomack, Virginia, to Levin Sr. and Gloria Hargis. He graduated from the Wicomico County Public School system. For many years, Kirtis worked as a head chef at various restaurants in Maryland.
Known as a jokester, Kirtis loved to make others laugh. He was a great storyteller and would have his listeners enthralled as his story unfolded. He had the ability to make the most unlikely events seem believable. Kirtis enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family and friends. He was the family babysitter when he became disabled. Kurtis had unique nicknames for each of his nieces and nephews, and Ja Nylah became known as Nyla Dolla, GiGi became known as Peaches, and JuJu was named Mutten Botton. He loved his family, and humor was how he demonstrated his love and affection.
Kirtis was preceded in death by his parents, Levin and Gloria Hargis, sisters Jenovera, Yolanda, and Marquita, and brothers Levin Jr. and Garry Hargis, all of Salisbury, Maryland.
Kirtis leaves to cherish loving memories, fiancé Chery Copeland, son Deonta Hargis, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. As the third generation, we did our best to care for our uncle. He was the last one standing, and we loved him deeply. Kirtis will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He fought a great battle, and now he is at peace. True to his character, he would say, "Don't cry for me; smile for me."
