Marcy Town, NY - Larry Irvin Smith, 64 died Saturday, March 9, 2019, in Marcy Town, New York following a lengthy illness.

Born in Salisbury, Maryland, he was the son of the late Irvin Hudson Smith and Loretta Mae Purnell Smith.

Larry attended the public schools of Worcester County.  He relocated to New York after graduation.

Larry was kindhearted, he was a family person who loved all of his family members.  By telephone he communicated to members of his family daily, giving them encouraging words concerning the goodness of the Lord. Communicating with family was definitely something that he looked forward to with excitement.  There wasn't a conversation that did not reflect how God was working in His life.  His love and concern for others exemplified his relationship with the Lord.  He allowed the Lord to fight his battles and reminded others that God was the strength of their being.

In his earlier years of life, he served as a Deacon at New Beginnings in Wyandanch, New York and he diligently continued to read and study his Bible every day.

His favorite scripture was Psalm 23

He loved to create an atmosphere in making others laugh and smile.

He is survived by a stepfather: James Stephen of Wheatly Heights, NY; sisters: Cassandra "Sandy" (Robert) Stanford of Texas, Andrea Smith of Berlin, MD, Sherry Purnell, Ricky Purnell, and Michael (Justina) Purnell, all of NY; aunts: Jerdeane Waters of Berlin, MD, Mildred Handy and Grace Gray of Delaware, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Two siblings: Brenda Bradshaw and Holstine Smith preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, March 22, 2019, at Tyree AME Church in Berlin, Maryland where friends may view one hour prior to service.  Interment will be in Calvary United Methodist Church cemetery in Berlin, MD.
