Obituary

Dallas – Letta Waters Hull, 99, formerly of Salisbury, a retired educator, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in Arlington, TX.

Born in Clara, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Levin and Mary Elizabeth (Conway) Waters.  She was the youngest of ten children.  Her late husband of 56 years, Milbourne F. Hull, Sr. died February 1995.

Mrs. Hull graduated valedictorian from the former Nanticoke High School and earned a teaching certificate from the former Bowie Normal School, now Bowie State University.  She continued her education and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Morgan State University and a Master's Equivalency from Rutgers University.  She received an Advanced First Grade Certificate and a Certificate in Elementary School Library Science from the University of Maryland, College Park.  She completed other graduate studies at Cornell University and New York University.

Letta's teaching career began in Wicomico County where taught for two years and in 1939 she moved to Charles County, MD with her first teaching assignment at Pomfret, MD.  She also taught at Masons Springs Elementary School and J. C. Parks Elementary School in Pomonkey, MD where she later became the full time librarian. She served the children in Maryland for more than 31 years before relocating to King of Prussia, PA where she was an elementary school librarian for six years.

Her civic and community involvement included Charles County Teachers Association, NEA, Maryland State Retired Teachers' Association, the American Library Assoc., Maryland Library Assoc. and the Maryland Association of Reading Teachers.

Her faith commitment and church affiliations included the former Grace Methodist Church of Newtown, MD, Metropolitan United Methodist Church of Pomonkey, MD, New Hope Church, Norristown, PA, Wesley Temple United Methodist Church, Salisbury, MD and Concord Church in Dallas, TX.  She was a member of the United Methodist Women and Missions Committee at Wesley Temple U.M. Church.

Her survivors include a daughter, Brenda (Michael J.) Hull Thompson of Dallas, TX and a son, Milbourne F. Hull, Jr. of Frederick, MD; one grandchild, Dr. Justin Hull Thompson of Dallas, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2016 at Wesley Temple U. M. Church in Salisbury, MD.  Interment will be in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.  Friends may view Thursday evening at Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury from 6-8 pm and again on Friday at the church, one hour prior to service.

A Memorial Reception will be held on June 2, 2016  6 to 8 p.m. At Concord Church, 6808 Pastor Bailey Drive, Dallas, Texas 75237 in the Chapel (214-331-8522)
