Obituary

Salisbury – Loretta B. Jolley, the owner and operator of Jolley Memorial Chapel, made a peaceful transition on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at PRMC in Salisbury.

Born in Cobbs Station, VA, she was the daughter of the late Littleton Daniel and Laura (Francis) Bibbins.  Her late husband, Thornton B. Jolley preceded her in death in 1962.

Mrs. Jolley received her formal education in the public schools of Northampton County, VA.  Upon graduation, she matriculated at the former Little State College, now Norfolk State University, Norfolk, VA.  She received a Bachelor's  degree in Home Economics from the former Maryland State Teachers College, now the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, Princess Anne, MD.  She did further studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore and Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Her teaching career began in Northampton County, VA, as a Home Economics teacher and continued at the former Worcester High School. She retired in 1963 from the former Salisbury High School as an Arts & Crafts teacher.  Upon the death of her husband, she retired and became the owner and operator of Jolley Memorial Chapel, with locations in Salisbury, Deal Island and Berlin, MD.  Mrs. Jolley assisted and served families in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia for over 50 years.

Her civic involvement included membership in the Wicomico County & Maryland State Retired Teachers Association; NAACP; AARP; Salisbury High School Alumni Assn.; UMES Alumni Assn.; election judge for the Wicomico County Board of Elections; American Legion Auxiliary #145; Naomi Chapter #16; O.E.S. P.H.A.; Order of the Golden Circle, John H. Jones Assembly #284; local and state funeral director associations.  She was also a founding member of the former Friendly Benefit Club, a community service organization.

She was a lifelong member of Wesley Temple United Methodist, where she served on the United Methodist Women.

Her survivors include 3 daughters: Terrelle E. (Arthur) Jolley-Gray and Dr. Roni L. Jolley, all of Baltimore, MD; and Patricia A. Jolley of Salisbury, MD; 3 grandchildren: Erin Gray of Baltimore, MD; Ryanne (Russell) Lashley-Camper and Edwin T. Lashley, all of Salisbury, MD; one sister, Arline Young of Media, PA, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

One brother and six sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, November 10, 2017 at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, 217 Beaglin Park Drive, Salisbury, MD.  She will lie in state, Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Jolley Memorial Chapel, Salisbury from 11AM – 2PM and at Wesley Temple U.M. Church, 1322 West Road, Salisbury, MD from 3-8 PM.  O.E.S. ritualistic rites will be conducted at 6:30 PM.
