LIFE REFLECTION

Mary Bertie (Mason) King, 89, the daughter of the late Dorothy Bishop and Thomas Mason was born in Snow Hill, Maryland on February 19, 1932.  She was one of three siblings born to this union.  Mary's mother died when she was 4 years old, her father Thomas remarried when she was 11, and she gained a wonderful new mother (Ernestine), a brother (John Raymond) and a sister (Ruth). Mary peacefully slipped away from this earthly life on June 24, 2021, while at home surrounded by her loving family.

Mary graduated from Worcester High School in 1949.  After uniting in holy matrimony to Leroy O. King on April 12, 1951, she followed his military journey to Easton, Maryland then to Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  In Portsmouth, she worked various industrial factory type jobs, while Leroy took military assignments across the world.  During this time, she raised their eight children in a safe environment that provided a good education.  She also became involved with the American Legion Woman's Auxiliary in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, until she moved back to Snow Hill, Maryland.

She rejoined her childhood church, Ebenezer United Methodist in Snow Hill, where she was an active member.  She also became active in the Order of Eastern Stars, Sunlight of the Valley No. 43, Berlin, Maryland.  She worked at Campbell Soup Company and later with the State of Maryland Holly Center, both located in Salisbury until her retirement at the age of 62.

She enjoyed cooking as much as family and friends enjoyed eating her many delicious meals, especially her fried chicken, collard greens, potato salad and pineapple upside down cake.  She raised several grandchildren that helped create a strong family bond throughout the generations.

In her later years, she moved to Wilmington, Delaware, to be closer to her son, Alan King and daughter, Marva King.  She attended Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church with her daughter, Marva, for twenty years.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband: Leroy; daughter: Darlene (Angel) King; son: Daniel Lee King (Patricia); son: Alan Curtis King; sister: Lillian Mason; brother: Wilmer Thomas (Buster) Mason; sister: Ruth Robinson Anderson; brother: Tommy Mason and grandson: Errol Crawford, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memories her five children: Kazi Touré (Myriam), Arnold King (Kate), Marva King, John King (Velma Jeanne), and Kelly King; one daughter-in-law: Gwen King; seventeen grandchildren: Tony, Derrick, Autumn, Wakeitha, Ryanne, Edwin, Jamaal, Jackie, Shawnda, Shawnetta, Joshua, Shawntel, Shawnice, Timmy, Arnise, Armani, Jahari and Meeka; nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two brothers: John Raymond Robinson (Jill), and Charles Mason (Cynthia); and sister-in-law: Rosalee Mason.
