Michael Anthony Romaine Whaley was born on December 6, 1959, to Helen Robbins Whaley of Berlin, Maryland, and the late Brooks Cannon Jr. of Seaford, Delaware. He peacefully departed this life on Monday, November 4, 2024.
Born and raised in Berlin, Maryland, during his adolescent years, Michael attended St. Paul United Methodist Church under Reverend E.C. Hackshaw. He attended Flower Street Elementary School, Buckingham Elementary, Berlin Middle School and later graduated from Stephen Decatur High School with the class of 1977. Michael continued his education at Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware, and later transferred to Salisbury State University in Salisbury, Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Communications.
Michael forged a distinguished career in telecommunications and teaching in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. He worked at MCI in Silver Spring, Maryland, as a trainer and customer service specialist, retiring after over 25 years with the corporation. Michael also taught at the University of Phoenix for whom, he consulted and traveled nationwide, teaching customer service training modules.
Michael was renowned for his vibrant spirit, charisma, and authenticity. He possessed an unshakeable sense of integrity, standing up for what was right and protecting his loved ones. More than a son, brother, and uncle, Michael was a friend, mentor, and the life of every gathering. He embraced life fully, with a heart brimming with love, laughter, and wisdom.
Michael was preceded in death by brother Timothy "Tim" Whaley of Berlin, MD. He leaves behind his beloved mother, Helen Robbins Whaley; siblings Rebecca "Becky - Hun Bun" Robbins, Berlin MD, Deborah Bartley, Bridgeton NJ, John Holland, Salisbury, MD, Brooks "Shim" Whaley, Seaford DE, Darryl Whaley, Berlin MD, Karen Whaley, Berlin MD, Patrick Whaley, Norristown PA, Tracie Robbins Purnell (Patrice Purnell ), Salisbury MD, Melissa Robbins, Philadelphia PA; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Michael's love and dedication to his family were unparalleled. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart, and each knew their "Uncle Mike" loved them deeply. He desired the best for them all. Michael's remarkable intellect, passion for teaching, and unwavering love will forever be remembered.
