Salisbury – Missouria Lee Byrd, 71 died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at PRMC in Salisbury.
Born in Modest Town, VA, she was the daughter of the late Earnest and Dorothy (Fosque) Bailey.
She was a graduate of the former Mary N. Smith High School in Accomac, VA. She later attended Wor-Wic Community College and received certification in Interior Decoration.
She was employed for over 40 years with the former Campbell Soup Co, Inc in Salisbury where she worked in Quality Control and as a receptionist. Upon her retirement she worked as a Security Guard for the Hudson Center in Salisbury.
Missouria was a lifelong member of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Salisbury where she served on the Senior Female Usher Board and former Missionary Board member. She was a Foster Parent and was inspirational in the fostering of over twenty children. She was also a former bus driver for Wicomico County Board of Education and was self-employed as a travel agent, sponsoring several trips in the US and abroad.
Her survivors include one daughter: Santea (Donald, Jr.) Taylor; a foster son: Sidney Jackson; two grandchildren: Dominique Taylor and Misha (Samuel, Jr.) Whittington; two great-grandchildren and one sister: Lois Bunting, all of Salisbury; one godson and a host of nieces and nephews.
Two brothers: Robert and Irving Bailey preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Mappsville, where friends may view two hours prior to service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will also be held Friday evening from 6-8 pm at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Salisbury.
