Obituary

Norman Cornelius Oliver, the son of the late Elwood Oliver and Florence Holden was born on July 24, 1940 in Millsboro, DE.  He peacefully departed this life on Saturday, September 6, 2025 surrounded by family at home in Salisbury, Maryland.

Norman received his education in the public schools of Sussex County.  He attended the former William C. Jason High School in Georgetown, Delaware. As a youth and young adult, he was a member of Dickerson Chapel A.M.E. Church in Millsboro, Delaware.  Upon relocating to Salisbury, Maryland, he transferred his membership to First Baptist Church, then Mt Enoch Holy Church.

Norman was a proud patriarch of a family who greatly cherished him, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a business owner in the private sector providing nationwide and local transport services. He loved entering his vintage automobiles in various car shows, and spending quality time with family and friends. He demonstrated his devotion and praise to the Lord through vocals in Gospel choirs and quartets.

Norman was predeceased by his wife of 55 years: Patsy Burton Oliver of Millsboro.

He is survived by seven children: Parris Oliver (Carol), Pamella Oliver (Daroyld), Ricky Oliver (Angela), Tanya Gordon (James), Valair Mann (Stephen), Crystal Allen (Dion), and Marcheta Price (Kevin); seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; three siblings: George E. Oliver (Stelena), Beatrice Oliver-Thomas (Jerome), and Linwood Oliver; one brother-in-law, Frederick Burton (Gertrude); one sister-in-law, MaryAnn Adkins; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Calvin Oliver and Bruce Oliver.

A viewing will be held from 10-11am, Saturday, September 13 at Dickerson's Chapel AME Church in Millsboro, DE.  The funeral service will directly follow beginning at 11am. The internment will proceed at Old Field Cemetery in Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to c/o Dickerson Chapel AME Church in Millsboro DE.
