Pauline R. (Paul) Purnell, 95 died Thursday, September 11, 2014 at her home on Germantown Road in Berlin, MD.
Born here, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Sr. and Margie (Jarmon) Purnell. Her late husband John Purnell died in the 90's.
She was a graduate of Chester High School in PA. Upon graduation she became employed as a counselor for over forty years at Boy's Village in Cheltenham, MD.
She made her home in Waldorf, MD for many years and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Clinton, MD. Upon her retirement she relocated back to Berlin, MD and transferred her membership to St. Paul United Methodist Church in Berlin where she served on the United Methodist Women and was an active participant in Bible Study and Sunday school.
Her civic memberships included: Berlin MAC Center, Red Hat Society, Germantown Heritage School Group, The Happy Club, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary #231, Duncan Showell Post, The Household of Ruth #3567 and a local Bowling League.
Her survivors include three siblings: Clarence Purnell Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Boyd (Hennie) Purnell and Betty Lewis, who was also her caregiver, all of Berlin; one sister-in-law: Rebecca Purnell; three god-daughters: Debbie Purnell-Farlow, Margaret Jarmon and Cloretta Washington; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Four siblings: Clifford and Milton Purnell, Sr.; Delaphine Haynes and Margie Tindley preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held noon, Saturday, September 20, 2014 at St. Paul U.M. Church in Berlin where friends may call two hours prior to service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Fraternal rites will be held at 11:00 a.m.
