Russell Lee Davis, Jr. was born on August 1, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Jean Smith and Russell Lee Davis, Sr. He departed peacefully on August 4, 2025, at the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, Florida at age 76 with his loving wife by his side.

He completed his middle school education in Philadelphia and graduated from William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown, Delaware, class of 1967. After High school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Senior Airman and later Sergeant with a specialty as an Aviation Mechanic during the Vietnam era. His service was exemplary, earning him the respect of all who knew him. After his military career, he continued his work as a flight mechanic for the Baltimore Orioles, the Charlotte Hornets, and the Orlando Magic as their Flight Mechanic.

Russell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL in May 1994. Later, Russell established his own Aviation Consultant firm, "RL Davis and Associates" in 1997, where he worked until his retirement in 2017.

On May 25, 2014, Russell's heart found its match in Reverend Doctor Dianne and they enjoyed 11 years of marriage. He lovingly served as the "First Gentleman" of United Methodist churches in Milton, Delaware and in Orlando, Florida. Russell had a sweet and gentle spirit, making him the perfect companion for his wife's ministry.

Russell had a passion for various genres of music, a love of technology, and a keen appreciation for Apple's innovation and design. An aviation enthusiast, he could identify the make and model of any aircraft on TV or in a movie.

Few knew that Russell had a quiet love for writing short stories- a hidden passion he nurtured in private. Russell was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and treasured his autographed jersey signed by Michael Vick. Russell also had a love for photography. He and Dianne often took trips to New York City to visit B&H Photo on Ninth Avenue.

Known for his playful sense of humor, Russell had a few favorite sayings, when told, "l love you," he would often reply, "I know, you can't help yourself." He would also jokingly tell his wife, "Did you READ the manual? "when she needed help with a new gadget. His favorite quote was, "I'm just a poor old boy from Sussex County, Delaware, who happened to find his way around the world."

Russell and Dianne shared a love for travel, venturing to destinations such as to Dubai, Greece, Abu Dhabi, Japan, Alaska, Turkey, Indonesia, and Italy. His favorites places were Abu Dhabi and London.

He was also a "Food Diva" and "Grill Master" who enjoyed fine dining from caviar to lamb chops and brisket, but his favorite neighborhood spot remained "Pizza King" in Laurel, Delaware. He is survived by his beloved wife: Reverend Doctor Dianne Davis, and their beautifully blended family; daughters both by birth and love. His daughters: Alanna Davis, Di-Anna Davis, and Dianne's daughters: Tara Winder, Janelle Smith, (Delray), and Nishea Rucker. He also leaves behind grandchildren: Jabre, Aniya, Taraji, Tavon, and two great grandchildren: Journi and Jayce. His siblings Calvin Cordell, (Deborah), Elsie Lewis, Roslyn Braddock, (Willis), Renee Seymour, (Ronald), Kevin Brown, Percy Brothers, and Apryl Gaines Overby, (Vince), sisters-in-laws, Adriend, (Tommy), Maria, Trudy, and Willette,(Marcus) brother-in-law George, nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Preceded in death by loved ones: Jean Smith, Russell Lee Davis, Sr., Virginia May Davis, Grandmother Francis Waller, Lloyd and Delores Gaines Russell will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, country and community. His legacy of love, laughter and service will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
