Obituary

Ryanne Elizabeth Lashley-Camper, beloved daughter, sister, cousin, niece, and wife made her peaceful transition on June 6, 2023, surrounded by family, friends and beautiful music following a lengthy illness at the age 41.

Ryanne was the eldest child born in Salisbury, MD on November 25,1981 to Edwin L. Lashley and the late Patricia Ann Jolley. Her parents and grandparents instilled in her a strong love for God, faith and family, an outstanding work ethic, and a respect for her family legacy.

Ryanne attended Wicomico County public schools and graduated from Wicomico High School in 1999. During her school years, Ryanne participated in band, chorus, and peer mediation programs. After graduation, she then attended Hampton University for two years and graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2003 earning a bachelor's degree in English. At Hampton, she was in the Hampton University Concert Choir she was involved in Theater Arts. Ryanne became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at UMES.

Ryanne attended both St. James A.M.E. Zion church and Wesley Temple United Methodist Church. In her later years, she became a member of Emmanuel Church. There she participated in the Praise Team with her mother. Ryanne's faith in God was unwavering and unapologetic. Most recently, Ryanne was attending West Unity United Methodist Church with her Aunt Terrelle and her family. Ryanne loved teaching and was a beloved educator. She taught at Wicomico Day School, the Salisbury School, Wicomico Middle School, Mardela High School, and Wicomico High School for over 20 years. Her dedication and commitment to her students led to a Teacher of the Year nomination. She loved teaching English, Spanish, and especially the Harlem Renaissance. It was important to Ryanne to expose her students to a variety of writers particularly writers of African American literature. She even started a Book Club with her students. Along with her love of literature and performing arts, she loved poetry and often wrote poetry.

All during her life, Ryanne was active in the Jolley Funeral home with her mother, Patricia and Grandmother, Loretta and later with her brother Edwin in the Howell &, Jolley Funeral home. Ryanne also spent a lot of time with her grandmother, Edna, on the family farm from whom she gained a love of cooking.

Ryanne loved being with her family and looked forward to family vacations. She attended plays and concerts in her last months despite her illness.

Ryanne is survived by her husband, Russell Camper, Salisbury, MD; father, Colonel Edwin L. Lashley (Lisa), Salisbury, MD; two brothers, Edwin Jolley Lashley, Salisbury, MD, Kyle Harmon (Catherine), Columbia, MD; four Aunts, Terrelle Jolley Gray (Arthur) and Dr. Roni L. Jolley, Baltimore, MD, Debbie Wright (Danny) and Tanya Street, Millsboro, DE; uncle, Wayne L. Lashley (Cheryl), Gaithersburg, MD; one niece and two nephews, Dominique, Preston, and Julius Harmon, Columbia, MD; grandmother, Sylvia Morris, Millsboro, DE; a special godmother, Deborah L. Gaines (Ronnie), Laurel, DE; one first cousin, Erin Gray, Baltimore; mother-in-law, Charlotte Camper, Salisbury, MD and a host of family and friends.

Ryanne also leaves behind her dearly beloved dog, Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia A. Jolley, her stepfather, Daniel L. King and her first cousin, Wayne Lashley Jr.

Remembrance is a golden chain, death tries to break, but all in vain. To have, to love, and then to part, is the greatest sorrow of the heart.

The years may wipe out many things, but this they wipe out never, The memories of the times we shared when we were all together.
