Wallace F. (Bud) Handy, Sr., 80 of Blackberry Road in Frankford, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at PRMC in Salisbury, MD.
Born in Bishop, MD, he was the son of the late Wallace F. and Radie (Waples) Handy.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving an honorable discharge in 1953.
He was the owner and operator of the former Handy's Radio & TV Service. He was also employed as a school bus contractor for the Worcester County Board of Education; as a security guard with Bennett Security in Delaware and as security supervisor with Thomas Security in Salisbury.
He was a member of Zoar U.M. Church in Selbyville, where he served as former Sunday School teacher, former president of the United Methodist Men and member of the Men's Choir, as well as other organizations within the church.
His civic and community involvement included: member and former president of the Lower Sussex County NAACP; Worcester County School Bus Contractors Assoc. and State of Maryland School Bus Contractors Assoc.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred Smith Handy of Frankford; two children: Wallace F. (Mamie) Handy, Jr. of Laurel, DE and Wynnette Handy of Parsonsburg; two grandchildren: Wilson and Whitney Handy; two great-grandchildren: Wilson, Jr. and Emory Handy; four siblings: Monroe Handy, Sr. of Phila., PA, Helen Smith of Bishop, MD, Mildred Handy Briddell of Laurel, DE and Ionia Davis of Berlin, MD; sisters and brothers-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.
A twin son, Wilson Handy preceded him in death in 1981.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Calvary Pentecostal Church in Bishopville, where friends may call one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Zoar U.M. Church Cemetery in Selbyville, DE.
