Obituary

Wanda Renee Purnell-Tucker was called home to rest on September 27, 2024, at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Born on September 16, 1956, Wanda was the daughter of Elisha M. Purnell and Linda  Waples Purnell.

As a child, Wanda attended Flower Street Elementary School, and later attended Worcester High School. However, Wanda graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1974, where she played the clarinet with the marching band. Subsequently, Wanda received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1978 from Bowie State University. She became a devoted Zeta Phi Beta sorority sister.

Wanda was employed with Wicomico Board of Education for several years. She also receives various certificates in nursing from Wor-Wic Community College.

Wanda was an active member of St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church in Salisbury, Maryland for several years. Her relationship with Jesus Christ was evident of the way she lived her life and how she treated others. Wanda demonstrated her love to others through consistent telephone calls, recognizing special events in their lives and sending cards.

Included in Wanda's favorite hobbies were eating, dancing, singing, and listening to music. During her health recovery, she enjoyed her church online fellowship. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandsons and family. Wanda leaves an indelible imprint on those who truly knew her, and she will be missed by those who loved her.

Wanda was preceded in death by parents, Elisha M. Purnell and Linda Waples Purnell, siblings, Lenford Purnell, Catherine Purnell-Armstrong, Roxie P. Connelly, Arthur A. Purnell Sr., Martha J. Purnell, Darlene Purnell, and Estella P. Parker.

Wanda is survived by her daughter, Renita J. Purnell of Baltimore, Maryland, and son, William Tucker of Delmar, Delaware, two grandsons, Elishah S. Tucker and Zion J. Tucker, siblings, Rev. Dr. Bennie Purnell of Pikeville, Maryland, and Linda P. Cooke of Seaford, Delaware, best friend, Marvelene Derrickson, and a special devoted friend, Gilbert Morris, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives and friends.
