Life’s Reflection
Anna Louise (Truitt) Purnell was born March 7, 1928, in Snow Hill, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Howard King Truitt and Marguerite Ellen Truitt.
Anna received her formal education in the public school system of Worcester County, graduating from the former Worcester High School in 1944. She was privileged to have married Alexander Floyd Purnell on August 8, 1947. From their union, the couple was blessed with seven children. Anna was a wife and mother who loved taking care of her family and anyone else needing help. Her home and arms were opened to provide whatever was their need.
Summer was Anna’s favorite season, and she loved Wednesday night Bible study and preparing meals for the congregation to enjoy afterwards. She was affectionately known as "Mother Anna" to her family, church family, friends and community. She was also associated with Jolley Memorial Chapel PA for more than twenty-years, assisting with funerals. Anna was employed for over fifteen years with the former Peninsula Regional Medical Center, now Tidal health Peninsula Regional Medical Center. She retired in 1993. She loved the Lord with all her heart and she expressed it at St. John United Methodist Church in Sinepuxent, near the Town of Berlin. She was also instrumental in the formation of Refreshing Fountain Church of God In Christ in Berlin, for many years. Mother Anna loved her fellowship with several churches. She was a devoted member of the Pillars of Wisdom at St. John United Methodist Church and The Happy Club at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Mother Anna leaves to cherish loving memories, five children, Patsy Purnell, Alexandria Stanley, Patricia Whittington, and James (Andrea) Purnell, all of Salisbury, Maryland, and Terry (Jacqueline) Purnell of Waldorf, Maryland; twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, four godchildren, one sister, Mable (Conwell Foreman), sisters-in-law, Mary Francis Purnell, and Elsie Truitt, daughter-in-law, Sandy Purnell, and a host of extended relatives and friends. PSALMS 91:1-2
1. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
