Audley Winton Martin, 79, was born, in Crawford St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, West Indies, to father, Joseph Martin and mother, Madvianna Wynton on May 26, 1944. He peacefully passed away in his sleep at his residence in Delmar, Delaware, on May 3, 2023.
Audley had a very quiet and humble spirit; everyone he met loved him. He was very trustworthy, gifted, and talented. There was not anything he could not repair or build. Audley always found a way to make it work.
He graduated from high school in Crawford in Jamaica, West Indies. Later he graduated from Auto Body Trade School in the United States in the 1970s. He was employed with Dick Stevens Chevrolet for ten years and DarCars Toyota for fifteen years as a auto body technician, where he referred to as, “The Best Body Man.”
Audley retired in 2007 from Darcars Toyota and moved to the Eastern Shore, where he built his home in Delmar, Maryland. He was very immaculate in everything, including his personal grooming and the way he maintained his lawn. He was particular about his yard, ensuring his grass was well manicured. The day before he passed, he cut his grass and worked in his yard. He was quite proud of it! It was beautiful. Audley’s yard and home is the standard for the entire neighborhood. It is admired.
Audley hobbies included working on his yard, playing keno, lottery, scratch offs, racehorses, and watching all sports, e.g., basketball, hockey, football, baseball, game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, Let’s Make A Deal, The Price is Right and all the court television shows, and a few comedies, which made him laugh.
Audley worked part time on the Eastern Shore with Mack Malone Lucky’s Garage for fourteen years. He mainly performed body work and other duties as needed. Audley was trustworthy, well-respected, and loved by his colleagues. He enjoyed his work. He was a kindhearted, simple and private man, who lived a fun-filled life, doing the things he enjoyed. Audley will be missed by all who crossed his path.
Audley was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers & three sisters. He is survived by two sisters, Ruthie & Leonie, daughters, Vivianne Martin, Carol Townsend, sons, Steve Martin Laselle Martin, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, cousins & friends, his caregiver/goddaughter/companion, Joan Williams, for the past seventeen years, who cared for him until his death.
Rest in Peace, Audley Winston Martin
