Barbara Nadine (Williams) Bennett, age 84, of Salisbury, Maryland peacefully passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Maryland after a short illness. Barbara was born in Fruitland, Maryland on May 22, 1936 to the late Louis and Edith (Rock) Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Bennett.
Barbara received her primary education in Fruitland, Maryland. She graduated from the former Salisbury High School in 1954. After graduating, she wanted to get married. Her father said, “Your sister, Becker, went to college and you are going to.” She went to college and graduated from the former Bowie State Teachers College, now Bowie State University, with high honors. She returned to Fruitland, Maryland, accepted a job with Worcester County Public School, where she taught for several years. After her father’s death, Barbara accepted a position in the Baltimore Public School system. She continued her education at Morgan State University earning a Master of Science Degree, qualifying as a specialist in Mathematics. She worked as a specialist with Baltimore City Schools for several years until her retirement. After retirement she returned to Salisbury, Maryland. Twenty years after returning from Baltimore she accepted a position teaching adult education at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury. She retired from that position eight months before her untimely death.
Barbara loved the Lord. She was a woman of faith and a faithful member of St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church in Salisbury, Maryland. for thirty years. She served on the planning committee, the Steward Board, the Trustee Board, the Scholarship Committee and as chairperson of the Annual Back Home Committee. In addition, Barbara was the president of the Local Lay Council. She served as the District Laity throughout the A.M.E. Zion Church conference. With honor, she served as president of the former Philadelphia-Eastern Shore District Lay Council for eleven years. In that position she traveled throughout the district teaching and serving members. She was a godly woman who served with vision and a passionate love for Christ.
She leaves to treasure loving memories, her sister: Rebecca Newsome of Hampton, VA; her brother: Roosevelt Williams of Philadelphia, PA; two god daughters: Sonya Williams of Philadelphia, PA, and Sharon Anderson Jones of Salisbury, MD; and a host of nieces and nephews, other extended relatives, and friends. She will be missed by family, friends, and church.
Besides her husband: Willie Bennett and her parents: Louis Williams and Edith (Rock) Williams, five brothers and three sisters, all preceded her in death.
7)I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8) Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.
