Beatrice Parker Obituary

It broke our Hearts to lose you.

You did not go alone.

For part of went with you

The day God called you Home.

Beatrice Romaine Parker, one of six siblings born to the union of the late Leonard J. and Elizabeth Harris Jones, was born in Deal Island, Maryland on June 5, 1941. Our Lord peacefully called her home on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, MD.

Romaine and/or Maine, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, received her formal education in the public schools of Somerset County, however; she was a 1959 graduate of the former Salisbury High School. Upon graduating from high school, Romaine became employed with the former Peninsula General Hospital, now Tidal Health here in Salisbury, retiring in 2004 after 45 years of dedicated service.

Her Christian training began as a youth with her parents at John Wesley Methodist Church in Deal Island, MD. In later years, she became a member here at Wesley Temple United Methodist Church where she served for many years as President of the Usher Board, was a faithful member of the then United Methodist Women and of the church Memorial Committee. She remained active in her church commitments until her failing health.

Maine was a very talented crafts person often making creative items such as twine wrapped balloon Easter baskets for her nieces and nephews when they were young. She took cake decorating classes and was often asked by the church and friends to bake cakes for any occasion. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and fishing.

Aunt Romaine/Maine was very family oriented, she especially loved traveling with her sisters and spending time with her nieces and nephews often traveling to celebrate different occasions in their lives. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and peers.

Many people didn’t know that her first name was Beatrice and would inquire, “Who’s that?” She would just respond, “Me” with a mischievous grin. However, she became affectionately known as Ms. Bea when she went to her dialysis appointments and to her new friends and staff at the Blind Industries and Services of Maryland when her vision started to impair.

Romaine leaves to cherish loving memories with her sister, Shirley E. Laws, a devoted niece, Medenia K. Dashiell, nieces, Earlene V. Elzey and Sharri L. Handy. Nephews Kenneth H. Dashiell (Felicia), Wendell K. Dashiell (Felicia), Nathaniel L. Dashiell (Jill), Dr. Kendell M. Handy (Janice), Benjamin A. Dashiell (Shelia) and Brent Jones; a host of cousins and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ornetta Jones Dashiell, Velma L. Jones, Althea V. Handy and a brother, Norman L. Jones; and nephews, Murray R. Dashiell, Earl Handy Jr. and Russell Wise.

A Psalm of David.

23 The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
     He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
     He leads me beside the still waters.
     He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness
     For His name’s sake.

     Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
     I will fear no evil; For You are with me;
     Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

    You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
    You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
    Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
    All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house
of the Lord Forever.
